Home blood pressure monitoring
A practice invites patients to take their blood pressure at home for a week. Patients enter readings on their phone. The practice pharmacist sees everyone's readings in one place, with a suggested next step.
- I'm a patient Enter this morning's or this evening's reading.
- I'm the practice pharmacist See who needs contacting, who is at target, and who hasn't started.
What this is
Two roles, one set of data. Whatever a patient types appears on the pharmacist's view straight away, because both pages read the same list on the server. This is rung 4 of the ladder: the server keeps a list and writes it to a file.
The patients are fictional. The rules loosely follow the NICE guideline on home monitoring: two readings a day for a week, ignore the first day, average the rest, and treat any reading of 180/120 or more as a same-day call. It is a sketch of a pathway, not clinical advice.
The same prototype also exists in a second skin: the same routes and data file, dressed as an invented startup product with none of the GOV.UK styles. A reading entered in one appears in the other.
Try this on one phone
- Open the pharmacist view. Tomasz has been invited but hasn't started.
- Go to the patient side, choose Tomasz, and enter a reading.
- Go back to the pharmacist view (there is a link at the foot of every page). Tomasz has moved.
- Enter a reading of 185 over 122 for anyone and see what happens on both sides.
